    Faithful to his Romantic heritage but embracing a looser and swifter technique that bordered on Impressionistic Eugène Cauchois created countless decorative still lifes establishing his reputation with skilfull compositions. His soft colourful and lustrous renditions were created through layers of fluid brushtrokes that were inspired by the artistic movements of his time. This pair of still lifes with a canteloupe melon and a red lobster reflect the diversity of Cauchois' talent and his particular style achieved with thick touches of vivid colors leading to a heavily impasto surface that brought the voluptuous texture of his subject matter to life.
