A Louis XVI style commode in rectangular and slightly bulged shape. It features curved flanks in veneered mahogany and boxwood and stands on four tapered legs. It opens with a thin drawer placed in the apron and presents two other drawers without stretcher in the façade. The ornaments are finely-wrought, consisting of chiselled and gilt bronze decorative items, such as oak and acanthus leaves and framings with water leaves and scrappers. The top surface is made of yellow Sienna marble. Manufactured in France in the late 19th century (circa 1880) according to an original model made by the French cabinetmaker Jean-François Leleu (1729-1807). This was a very popular shape for a commode during the Louis XVI period. This model arrived to the Petit Trianon in Versailles in 1867 as part of an exhibition in the memory of Marie-Antoinette. It was organised as a request of Empress Eugénie. Source: P. Arizzoli-Clémentel, Le mobilier de Versailles, Tome 2, Faton, Dijon, 2002, p. 122-123. Good condition and wear consistent with age and use. Dimensions: 58 cm (length) x 130 cm (width) x 88,5 cm (height).
